I love my cup of tea in the morning.
but does this count towards my daily recommended water consumption. I am told I should be drinking, up to 8 glasses of water per day,
I am not a great lover of plain water, but I do love my herbal teas, coffee and nut milks, I also use water to make up my two protein shakes every day. So do these count?
In a word YES.
Get those fluids into you. You are made up of 60% water, so it is crucial for your overall health, also for your nails, skin and hair. If you are not a great lover of plain water like me, you should try to keep your fluids up. Please do not take this literally, I do not mean you can drink copious amounts, of sugary drinks and alcohol.
I used to believe that the water in my coffee did not count, as coffee is known to be a diuretic, it makes you go to the loo a lot. The general thinking, was that you would be losing more water, than you would be taking in. Research has shown this is not to be the case. So your coffee does help towards your fluid intake.
It does not mater about the temperature of your fluid either, Cold, warm or hot will all help towards hydration. Even your fruit and vegetables will provide around 20% of the water you need.
So I guess this is why I am not dead yet, I always wondered how I had survived without drinking all those glasses or bottles of water I had been advised to get down me every day.
My healthy diet of protein shakes, leafy green veggies, broccoli, rice watermelon, peaches and tea and coffee is all helping me to stay hydrated. and can I say the odd glass of vino. Well I am human.
In some countries it is normal to be given a small glass of water with your coffee. I have recently started making sure I have one every time I order my coffee in a cafe.
There are a good four reasons why you should drink water with your coffee.
Most importantly is Dehydration – try and get a glass in before your morning coffee. Your body will need it after 8 hours fasting. Stomach irritation, Coffee can be quite acidic and drinking some water will help alleviate any acid. Coffee will taste better, Cleanse your palette first and notice the difference. Eliminate a coffee crash. Did you know that coffee contains a chemical called Theobromine, which goes into action 25 minutes after you have finished your coffee. Theobromine is the cause of the tiredness you usually get. This is why drinking water after or during, will lower the chances of this crash happening.
Drinking plain water does have many benefits though and it is calorie free, inexpensive and for most of us readily available, I find it easier to drink in hot weather, and after exercise, that is when my body craves it. I know a lot of people who cannot sleep, without a whole bottle of water beside their bed at night, just incase they wake up and need to drink.
For me I guess, I am just not a water baby, so I have to entice myself.
I will often make up a jug of water in the fridge with lemon and orange slices, sometimes I add fennel and mint, Anything to give it some taste.I also hate drinking out of plastic bottles and that includes cups. I believe that is because I was made to drink milk out of Tupperware cups when I was a child, Yuk!
