Tune in to your body

Blow kisses to clouds,

and welcome the sun,

hold hands across nations,

the healing’s begun.

I am lying on a yoga mat, The morning sun is warming my shoulder and my body is tingling following my morning practise of stretching my body. I feel relaxed but totally aware. I am alive and I feel grateful. In tune with my own body and listening to what it is telling me.

My concentration goes to my left leg. Lately it has been complaining by giving me a pain in my thigh, often after walking. Mentally we have a little chat. ‘What is your problem and how can I help you?’

Years ago, I read in a book written by an Australian author that the Aboriginal civilisations will apologise to parts of their bodies to help them heal from pain or injuries. The author wrote how she witnessed some rapid healing.

Many of us learn to live with pain, often ignoring it in the hope it will go away. It is true that the body has a way to heal itself, however sometimes it uses pain to let us know it needs you to listen, because some action is required. My leg pain is at that stage, and as I lie back with my eyes closed, listening to the sound of my breath and the birds, I promise my leg that I will do something. I promise that we will have a massage and that I will then spend time in my bedroom, with my legs raised up against the wall. I place my hand on my leg and give it a gentle pat.

Sometimes, when we tune in, not only do we learn to become aware of any changes, but we learn to address what our body needs and how it is affected when we deny it. Nutrition is something I became very interested in when I changed my eating habits. I became aware of what feeling good should feel like and how my body functioned when it was nourished and given exercise.

I learned that eating too much bread, for example, would hinder the flexibility in my joints. I learned that my Ionix drink from Isagenix taken daily improved my mood and if I did not take it for over a week, I saw a marked difference. Red wine affected my sleep, and high sugar levels in my diet, left me feeling lethargic. These were all changes that I noticed by tuning in and asking my body how it was feeling today. I started to notice how my mental health was feeling. I had spent years not listening, and my body was giving up on telling me it was not happy. I lived with it, the pain, the lethargy, the stress, the bad hair and flaky nails etc., etc.

The circle of want,

Remember this, we run around and around in it, reacting to life. We see our body as something to cart around, Our heads and mental health balancing heavily on our shoulders letting them take the weight and strain as if we are merely cart horses. Take a moment and be calm, lie still and let your body tell you how it is feeling. Respect it, you will only ever have one and it wants to be your friend for ever. It is with you until you die, so start to honour it. Now take a few moments to apologise. Say sorry for the late nights, the alcohol, the ciggies, the bad skin care, the lack of water you drink, the processed greasy foods that you expect your body to process. If you are feeling bad now, good, I am glad.

Your body will forgive you if you start tuning in and listen.

Have a great day today XXX
