What are you waiting for?

Some of the best decisions I have made in my life I could put down to being spontaneous and often intuitive. How many times have you said to yourself, ‘Just do it‘?

While it is true that sometimes quick decisions can be effective, it is important to recognize that this is not always the case. In fact, many important decisions require careful consideration, analysis, and planning to ensure the best possible outcome.

What may appear to be spontaneous has often been simmering at the back of my brain and stored, waiting for the right moment to act.

I like to think that an idea has a time and place but we should never dismiss it.

People who procrastinate and never get things done often struggle with a number of issues that can make decision-making difficult. For example, they may experience anxiety, fear of failure, or a lack of motivation. Procrastination can also be a symptom of underlying mental health conditions, such as depression or ADHD. However, I believe we all have it in us to take the risk and wear the tee shirt. Some ideas need action!

Recognizing the appropriate time and place for emerging ideas is an important skill to instill in children from an early age. Encouraging children to be curious, ask questions, and explore their ideas can help them to develop a growth mindset and a love of learning.

By creating an environment where children feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes, we can help them to develop the skills and confidence they need to pursue their ideas and turn them into reality. This can involve providing opportunities for creative play, encouraging experimentation, and offering support and guidance when it is needed.

Teaching our kids the importance of persistence and resilience when pursuing their ideas. encourages them to encounter challenges and setbacks, but by teaching them how to approach problems from different angles, stay focused on their goals, and keep trying even when things are difficult, we can help them to develop the resilience and persistence they need to succeed.

My mother always told me I could be anything I wanted, she taught me to believe in myself and to be courageous. In my business, I would intuitively get a feeling if the time was right to pursue an idea. I have been criticized for my impulsive enthusiasm and witnessed a few raised eyebrows.

‘Just do it,’ I hear my late mother whisper in my ear. ‘If you hesitate, someone will pinch your idea, be the first and let others follow’. She had wise words.
